Desk Research

For a sense of unity in the midst of a Untact Era,

We need Harmony through the Online community and Music.

01. People need weak but broad social community, more than we thought.

People with an extensive, weak network, such as a sports team or church community, report greater happiness overall. However, due to the pandemic situation, social disconnection has occurred. Weak-bond interactions have disappeared from people's daily lives.

(…) Because of this, we have to find a way to develop weak ties even after the lockdown period is watery. Social media can be used to reach people who don't know each other well and have meaningful interactions with them.

02. There are a needs for onlie-connection.

  • The popularity of online meeting

Due to the pandemic, online culture has developed, and online activities such as online meetings and escape rooms are gaining social popularity.

  • People are looking for “oo with me“ contents

More and more people are looking for similar interests online, such as studying for an exam together(a.k.a ‘Study with Me’) or forming a club. Search terms related to “oo with me” content increased by 100%.

03. Music and ensemble can provide emotional stability.

Positive emotions dominate musical experiences. Pleasurable music may lead to the release of neurotransmitters associated with reward, such as dopamine. Listening to music is an easy way to alter mood or relieve stress. People use music in their everyday lives to regulate, enhance, and diminish undesirable emotional states (e.g., stress, fatigue).

Demand for the non-face-to-face music market is increasing

01. Increase in music consumption online after COVID-19

02. Growth of the Metaverse Platform

After the pandemic, the Metaverse platform proliferated. It is also particularly popular with the younger generation. The entertainment industry is also actively using digital humans and performing various performances in the metaverse.

Livestreaming of concerts and other events were an alternative to in-person events during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. As of August 2020, 73 percent of music fans surveyed said they had watched a livestream, with 60 percent saying they would continue watching live streams even after in-person events returned. The majority of fans were also willing to support their favorite artist by paying for streams, giving tips, or buying merch.

The Challenge

Help to restore the social ties lost in the era of Pandemic, and to assist musicians who lost their stage

Idea

Non-face-to-face Ensemble Service based on Metaverse

Opportunity Define

  • Variety. Users can be together through music with others over the obligations of different countries and times.

  • Free expression of individuality. Users can freely express their musical characteristics using Virtual characters. Musicians can also design the stage to their heart's content in the metaverse.

  • Comfort and convenient. There are no restrictions on what users can wear, and users get to relax in their safe spaces.

  • Interactive Communications. Users can deepen their virtual experience by conversing with other people watching in real-time. Musicians can actively communicate with fans online.

New Music Platform for diverse types of musicians

Advantages of utilizing the online / Metaverse platform

User Research

We conducted interviews with actual band players. After asking what elements they thought were essential in the ensemble process, I tried to implement them online.

Research Insights

We summarized the most important elements of the ensemble.

  1. Communication / interactions between the performers are important.

  2. Performers check signs/motions using hands and faces to match sums.

  3. Stage design is vital to express the music.

UX Principle

We designed the service considering the use of musical instruments, which is the service usage situation.

  1. Since it is difficult to touch the screen while playing a musical instrument, screen touch interaction is minimized.

  2. A seamless ensemble practice experience must be provided.

  3. Provide an immersive performance experience.

Blueprint

Designed the service by considering the interaction between users and necessary functions.

Wire-frame

Designed the wire frame in a structure that users are familiar with, such as non-face-to-face video service/ video editing service, so there is no difficulty in using.

Usability Tests (Wizard-of-Oz)

Conducted UT with the Hi-fi design.

Who have a need for new music activities online : 4 people / UX Designers : 4 people
