Project Overview:

Tikie is an educational platform addressing the disinterest of South Korean youth in social and political issues. Recognizing the current educational system's limitations, Tikie introduces a dynamic space for Generation Z to exchange opinions through short videos, aligning with their preference for concise content. Tikie aims to foster informed and enjoyable conversations, helping shape the values of the younger generation.

The Challenge

“How can we help digital native youth become interested in politics ?”

Design Process

Exploring

We explored the importance, status, and direction of youth political education through desk research.

Desk Research Findings

  1. Early political education is important for the continuing interest

  2. Peer group interaction is important for adolescent political education.

Understanding

What kind of needs do Korean teenagers feel when they learn about politics and establish values?

In-Depth Interview

To understand the context of the youth political status and find our target user, we met five High school students, two Youth politicians, and one Youth politicis education policy specialist.

Q. What difficulties do young people face when learning about political and social issues?

Q. As a youth politician, what direction do you think youth politics should take in the future?

Q. As an expert in youth politics education, what do you feel the youth need?

Affinity Diagram

Based on the interview, we organized the Affinity Diagram by analyzing the pay points from the process of participating in politics and exchanging opinions.

Cultural Modeling

We conducted cultural modeling by organizing youth political experiences, stakeholders and culture surrounding education.

Cultural Modeling Insights

Compared to the importance of the exchange of opinions found in desk research and field research, there was no environment in which a healthy exchange of opinions could occur.

Problem Statement

A new platform tailored to the digital-native behavior of teenagers is needed for the youth to learn about social issues and exchange opinions with their peers.

Artifact Modeling

We investigated what difficulties teenagers face when exchanging opinions in existing online services through artifact modeling.

Opportunity Factors of Existing Social Platform : Short-form Platform

  • Short content is being actively used by youngsters to understand the world.

  • On short-form platforms, youth can easily understand and actively participate in the content.

Solving

Let's solve the existing problems of acquiring information on SNS and exchanging opinions utilizing a short-form platform.

Persona/ Journey Map

Tikie will help with the existing problems by using the short form and induce online solidarity.

Final Service UI

Service Onboarding

When a student starts to use Tikie, he/she can select a subject that interests him/her.

Learn about the agenda/ Listen to various comments

Easily learn about the agenda by watching a short video about it. Listen about how the peers think about the issue.

Organize your thought and share about it

By using a cue card function, the user can easily organize his/her opinion. Take a video of it, attach reference URLs and upload it.

Explore Online Demonstrations based on individual interest

Tikie will recommend virtual protests for users based on their data. The youth can browse virtual protests held on topics of interest. The users can look around and join the protests they want to join.

Look around the Virtual Demonstration

Scroll down to look around the online demonstration. See the virtual pickets the participants have made and learn about the reason why others had participated.

Next Step

  • Through this service, we have gained interest from young users with features that mix the familiarity and novelty of short content and online virtual demonstrations. However, measures are needed to increase the utilization rate of long-term services. To do so, users should feel that their opinions and active protests while using this service have a long-term impact.

  • By attracting young politicians to this service as a new user base, politicians learn what values the young people who will soon become voters have. At the same time, it helps the healthy growth between the youth generation and young politicians by helping them exchange what politicians think.

  • Design ‘My Page’ to give people the feeling that their opinions are being accumulated.

Need a hook for long-term service use

How to achieve the goal

  • User profile that shows keywords of interest, uploaded comments, participated protests

  • Young Politician page where related politicians based on keywords are recommended
